Fille Du Monde (Child of the world)

Creative thinking

[Child of the world? ]

I was born there, and grew up elsewhere.
I grew up elsewhere and worked someplace else.

Discovering new lands, the child of the world soaks in new cultures, she fits in. She dives into different lives, into new traditions. Meets many people. Her encounters influence her near future, shaking up her plans for the next day, re-shaping her life and building her path.

China, Qatar, Argentina, France, Wales, Scotland, Slovakia, United States, Laos, Vietnam, Italy, Greece, Spain, Canada.

After working elsewhere, I kept going down my path. Found out that a given job is not the same from one country to another.

The child of the world moves with the stones that the World places in her path. She takes in these stones into her journey, shapes them so they take meaning in her life.
The child of the world is constantly evolving, with new data, new ideas, new hopes.

For the girl of the world, the important thing is to know what she is today.

We can define and redefine who we are by each experience we live, and by all that we continue to have. The languages learned, the people who have marked us.

We are ourselves in the way we feel, dance, laugh, smile.

About

“Fille du Monde” (Child of the World) was created in June 2020 with the will to blend world dances and travel. This 30-minute electro, oriental, Latin American (and many more) fusion depicts how travelling has shaped the young woman. “Fille du Monde” is a joyful, eclectic picture of different cultures. A colorful and exotic fusion of dances !

Our human senses
Our senses are what allow us to interact, react, anticipate with our world. By dancing outdoors, we at Ad Astra are constantly researching and strenghtening our relationship to nature. Being alert and conscient of what is happening outdoors when we dance is essential, but also what makes dancing outside extremely pleasant.

This 5 day workshop was designed for you to experience new sensations and translate them into dance. A sensorial trip that you won’t forget!

This year we went back to Madrid for the second time. Teaming up with Alejandra Perez-Izquierdo, Camila and her spent 4 months in residency to create their piece named Elíptico.

The journey of creation

Deciding the theme

As Ad Astra’s line of work relies on themes on and about nature, the dancers gathered to discuss potential themes for the piece.
It came out quite fast that both dancers were interested by the same topic at that moment: the cosmos.
After putting together their readings, articles and other material, the piece was structured and designed in a natural flow. Elíptico would be a representation of the theories of Everything and Nothing according to quantum physics; the theory of the Holes and other theories that evolve around the definition of emptiness and its existence.

How do particles evolve around each other? What happens when they accidentally meet? How do they react to the laws of attraction/reaction? What if the theory of the red string applied to two particles?

Dancing particles

The story of two particles is told in a duet that alternates between the ground and sky, aerial and contemporary dance. Using striking visuals, Elíptico takes us to the details of the Cosmos, in a poetic story of two infinitely small elements living in an infinitely large universe.
